Case Studies

When you choose to make a donation to one of HRF's projects or appeals, you can do so in the safe knowledge that the money that you pledge will be used to help many people in need across the globe.

Examples of where your money will be used are:

1. To bring clean drinking water to a village in desperate need, preventing the risk of infection and the need to walks miles and miles every day just for a basic human right.

2. To help give a family a home again after the destruction of war has left them without shelter.

3. To provide the elderly with the care and attention that they deserve. With your help, we can help get them the medication and treatment that they need.

4. To help families less fortunate than ourselves still enjoy the religious festivals such as Eid and Ramadhan

HRF have managed to help thousands of people world wide, and could not have done it without the help and support of it's donors and volunteers, so thank you. Here are some 'success stories'.

1. Last year HRF distributed 175000 Kilograms of meat to the poor and needy families throughout the world which means that approximately 1200 families benefited and enjoyed the blessings of Eid

2. Our volunteers keep on running! One of them, Mr Ali, ran the London and Edinburgh Marathons. He raised over £5,000 for the orphans in Iraq and Kashmir.

3. Over the last 3 years we've spent over £1 million in the Muzaffarabad region of Kashmir. We're continuing to support communities in this area, and we're in it for the long term.

Water Projects

A simple fact: Water is a necessity of life. Yet in the world today two billion people are without basic sanitation and one quarter of people living in the third world have no access to clean drinking water.

As a result over 12 million people die each year, including 30,000 children who die each day from preventable, water born, diseases such as malaria and diarrhoea.

At the Human Relief Foundation we believe that access to clean water is a privilege that every one should enjoy. Our water projects range from the distribution of water purification tablets to full scale well building.

Well Project

The Water situation in Iraq is at a crisis point as 1 in 4 cannot get sufficient clean drinking water, the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers are slowly draining, and the underground water in the southern part of the country is becoming unfit for human consumption or even for agricultural use due to high salt content. HRF has responded with your generous donation by drilling a number of new water wells alleviating the suffering of 5,000 families in the Iraqi provinces of Al-Anbar, Salahaldeen and Naynawa.

Rehabilitation and Restoration of Water Treatment Plants

The crisis in Iraq continues to disrupt the flow of water to citizens. A significant proportion of Iraq's water treatment facilities have been damaged through recent conflict. Around 83% of sewage is being let into rivers and waterways according to the UN, and water treatment and distribution facilities are disrupted by persistent power shortages. HRF has responded in the short term by delivering bottled water to the people, and in the long term, by funding the renovation of water treatment plants.

The HRF is currently implementing a programme of rehabilitation and restoration work for water treatment plants as well as building the capacity of the human resources working in the water facilities through training and coaching in three areas in the Babylon province namely, (Al-fodalia village , Al-jazra village and Al-Mahweel district) benefiting 1940 families.

The programme will also launch a hygiene awareness campaign. The campaign will promote proper usage of water, importance of healthy water, harmful human activities that affect water and how to avoid water born diseases.
