| Human Relief Foundation raises cash for Cumbria disaster sufferers 2:10pm Sunday 13th December 2009 By Kathie Griffiths (Telegraph & Argus) A Muslim-run aid agency has given thousands of pounds to make sure Christmas parties can go ahead for Cumbrian youngsters affected by the recent devastating floods. The Human Relief Foundation, based in Bradford, is more known for sending urgently-needed funds to further flung conflict-torn areas of the world. The international aid foundation has handed over £5,000 to the Cumbria Community Foundation (CCF) to bring festive cheer to the flood-hit region. Yousaf Razaq, of HRF, said: 'One of our slogans is 'putting a smile on the face of suffering'. We work with children around the world. As the flood waters devastated the Cumbrian region we were launching a concert tour for orphans in Iraq. We also work with children and orphans during times of religious festivals so it struck us how difficult it would be for the children in the flood-hit areas to celebrate Christmas'. Debs Muscat, who is acting director at CCF, said: 'We know from our 2005 Carlisle flood experience that community celebrations are a very important way of helping communities recover. 'Having a donation specifically to bring people together to celebrate Christmas is wonderful and it will be very gratefully received.' The Human Relief Foundation began in 1991 in response to the first Gulf War. Since then it has worked on projects in more than 15 countries. To make donations to the Human Relief Foundation, send them to HRF, FREEPOST BD3125, PO Box 194, Bradford, BD7 1BR, UK or visit hrf.org.uk.
